i have 2 long narrow borders in my front garden and have no idea what to plant in them.any ideas welcome

Depends- aspect,soil conditions,tastes-just need a bit more information and as always a picture paints a thousand words-any chance?
Where is your location-is it outside the UK?
Agree with sotongeoff...aspect/soil/size? Do you have to keep them that shape as they might benefit from reshaping. It will give you more scope to do something with them.
