Never put cooked food in the compost, I don't put in perennial weeds like ground elder and buttercups but you can put just the green in, not in flower.
i wouldn't put leaves and grass in the same bin.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
I've read that grass is fine with leaf mulch but only the odd bit here and there for nitrogen reaction
Leaf in my new chicken wire composter with tiny bit of grass maybe my coffee and tea leafs also
And maybe grass and odd potatoe peelings etc into my normal plastic dalek composter. Just not sure on its smell etc, was too gooey when I tried before. Not enough brown I'm sure
As I have the both bins I should learn to use them

Many thanks Hostafan1 and Welshonion - maybe I'll try both, in different places of course.
is it ok to add weeds? wont reseed etc
i have a composter that sat there for a year and i haven't really added to it, it has some ready to use at the bottom though. plastic tub type
but now built a leaf mulch bin next to it which will be my main use for leafs and grass
im just not a fan of putting food in to normal composter due to possible rotten smell
