I grow it in Pure compost which I add rose food and Bonemeal too. The rose is absolutely thriving in there and gets plenty of sun all year round. I'll post a picture when it comes into bud
I also have Zepharine Drouhin for the beautiful fragrance but my all time favourite is 'New Dawn' (David Austin rose) which is a barely pink beautifully scented double rose that is super reliable and grows between 10-15ft.
Cecile brunner grows the quickest for me - masses of blush pink flowers. At both my last garden and this one it has covered an 8 ft pergola in only three seasons. I agree with Shabana that New Dawn is lovely too - really glossy leaves that don't ever get spotted. That one does well in some shade too.

Zepharine Drouhin is lovely , and i am looking to get one but be warned it is prone to both black spot and mildew so needs to be in a sunny position.
Good luck
