strawberry hanging basket

due to my last hanging basket boo boo which many of you on here will know about, I thought before I do anything with my strawberry starter plants I would ask a little advice on the best way to plant and grow them in a hanging basket (the misses wants our own strawberries lol) in an ideal world I would eventually like them to be hung just outside the back door, I also read that birds are quite fond of them so wondered how to protect them to, I have read the threads on here but was looking for a little more advice ,thanks for any info
