We came back from holiday last weekend to a garden where the weeds had grown well but it was almost impossible to dig as it was so dry.  Finally got out on Thursday and gave it a thorough watering.  Absolutely persisted down all day Friday and again today.  Frustrated - you bet!!!!

Well you should be able to fork it over a little now.. We have had a rain soaked day or three lately and I'm very relieved to get some rain at last.. When the ground is too wet, I'd plant up some containers as a start..

I was wondering exactly what is the difference in tap water and rainwater as the rain really boosts growth.

My allotment plot is on clay, even digging it over and adding manure there were  still lumps: which broke down nicely thanks to the rain of the last few days  image . Now to weed the garden. One happy gardener here!

My allotment is clay too, and although it does it some good, I'd still rather lots of  sunshine!! We get 8 months of rubbish weather in the UK at least, I get quite angry when the sun doesn't shin in summer, image and take it personally, lol. July has been pretty rubbish so far, boo!

Also on clay so it turns from concrete to glue overnight with rain.

The ground is now too sodden to take ride on mower onto, so the grass will be as high as an elephant's eye in no time.

But we do indeed need rain, but not the 50mph gusts of winds forecast for to-day.

    Devon.
