I have a cast iron bath I'm wanting to turn into a water garden, any ideas for going about this ? Plants etc? I should imagine I want plants that are not going to takeover ?

You will need an oxygenator to keep the water clear for starters. I got my pond plants from this place and they have been good quality. http://www.puddleplants.co.uk/

I love water plants and apart from 2 ponds in the garden I've got all sorts of containers, including half a wine barrel and an old tin bath, filled with water and plants.

I plant everything in those special plastic baskets for aquatic plants, and put those on top of a brick or an upturned flower pot, depending on how deep the plant needs to be grown.

That makes it easier to take a plant out to repot, or remove if necessary.

I would always include a water lily, but it would have to be a small variety.

Other favorites of mine are Caltha, irises, Pontederia, and even some sorts of orchids do well if planted near the surface.
