ID just a memory
Many years ago I had an evergreen shrub. It had reddish bark which I think used to peel off in shreds . I think it may have been some sort of conifer. The leaves were soft and it had a bushy shape. The leaves on each branch we're bushy too. I don't remember it having a smell of pine. When I pruned it there was new growth from all parts of plant. It grew to about 6ft and if allowed, would spread in all directions.
Would love to get another. Often have a feel of evergreens in garden centres but could never find it.
Would be grateful for any suggestions.
In London. Keen but lazy.

Peeling red bark..... metaseqoia maybe.
Thanks chaps. Looked it up on rhs site. Leaves not right. The leaves on my shrub were sort of curly and sort of curled back on themselves. They were very soft . Some but not all, mature 'clumps' would get a reddish purplish tint and new growth was lime green.
Bark didn't actually peel off as such but would come off if rubbed.
It did not seem to have any ambitions to grow over 6ft.
It grew in very poor, dry soil in the corner of a very small front garden with brick walls.
