grey mites on carrots, danger?

I have Googled around, but no info on first search, so trying here for a quick and useful response, hopefully!

there are grey bugs, and eggs (i think), at the base of some carrots. What are they? and more importantly, do i need to pull them all out before they cause damage?

Aphids.  Try rubbing them off with your fingers and/or have a look around your garden for ladybirds on other plants and transfer them to the carrots. image

  • thanks Bob! will they cause damage to the carrots if left alone?

The colonies may increase and cause dieback of some of the foliage, potentially affecting the size of the carrots but probably not by much.  As it looks like your carrots are already a good size I wouldn't worry too much about them if you can't face squishing them!  image
