Plant ID

I'm not particularly good at ID'ing plants and will be grateful for help. This has lots of thorns up the stem!

It's growing in the wildlife patch so I don't mind keeping it if it could be particularly beneficial to wildlife. If not then I will dig it out since it will no doubt catch me as I walk past.

    Bramble.

Will grow very big and has really nasty thorns. Will of course get blackberries but if yo want to keep it, you need enough space and you'll have to train it on wires or so, to keep it in check.

  • Oh! Thank you. That is interesting.

Our next door neighbour used to grow blackberries. Sadly he passed away a few years back and the bushes were recently all hacked down by the developers. Wondering if it is all coincidental or not.

Unfortunately not neccessarily get blackberries. There are many species and some are pathetic little things without any substance. The ones that grow nauturally here are like that. Bees like the flowers and that's itimage

Must get some good ones started

  • I might just keep it there in memory of our neighbour - berries or not. I was upset when the developers came in and razed the whole of his garden to the ground. It was a bit overgrown but a real wildlife haven and the birds loved it. Now it's been flattened to a large brick drive and gravel patio image
