Hi Ian. Borage in my garden has grown to 2-3ft high and has been flowering since the end of June, so in a few weeks time if I leave the plants to their own devices, they will set seed and then disperse these over nearby soil. Nothing happens then until the following April when seedlings pop up all over the place which I transplant to more suitable locations! I love growing borage for the colour of the flowers and to attract bees: bumble and honey bees love it.
As Lyn says, sometime about March is the time to sow them under cover depending on where you live.
