Geum sand Heuchera
Need some advice please. I've had a few of each for 3 years now and they've started to look straggly. The heucheras have developed knarled stems that are growing out of the soil. The germs have split into 3 or 4 tiny clumps.
really don't know whether it's worth splitting and re-planting as the pieces would only a couple of inches across.
what has anyone else done and was it successful ?
thanks

Never bothered with Heuchera, but Geums, yes. Dig up the clumps, refresh the soil and replant. They should then grow away again. Give them a good watering first.and afterwards.
Heuchera propagate from root cuttings very easily. You can break bits off and replant them and they nearly always produce more plants. Very easy really. The best parts to are the outer roots. Discard the inner roots.
Heucheras usually do this, you should carefully dig up the plant and plant it deeper it will root off the new stem.
dont know about Geums.
Thanks everyone. Once this rain has passed I'll get digging.
Verdun, nail on the head re hot dry spot. Ill pot up the small bits and keep cool & moist
thanks everyone for taking the time to answer.
Watch out for Vine weevils in a pot. I found four adults on my sales Geums today which means that they will have to be soaked in nasty insecticides in a few weeks time when the eggs hatch out. Very annoying.
Vine weevils like heucheras too.
I've just dug up an old heuchera and have managed to get six new plants from it.
