Plant name?

On one of the programmes, I think it was Joe Swift who visited a garden where beds had been edged with, instead of traditional Box,  a low growing black leaf plant - looked a bit like Luzula in habit, meant to write down the name of it........can anyone help please - I want to buy some

I think you might mean Ophiopogon.

Have a look at this on the rhs site http://www.rhsplants.co.uk/plants/_/grasses/ophiopogon-planiscapus-nigrescens/itemno.RH30000746/

You're welcome image It makes a change for me to know the answer rather than asking the questions. I knew it because I have recently bought some, split them a bit before planting and now they have pretty little flowers spikes on them too.

The only thing is, they do not stop as the nice edging shown , they spread and spread and spread. They also seed around, but a good number of the seedlings are green, not black.

If they spread so easily, why are they relatively expensive to buy and not often seen in the garden centres? I had assumed it was because they were difficult to propogate. I tried to find some seed to grow my own but they seemed expensive too. Do you know what makes some of them black and some green? I'm curious about them now.

I was given a huge clump by a friend who said they spread like crazy.  With that in mind I separated a few & put them in a decorative plant pot and gave the rest to friends with a warning.  Mine has started to flower and looks very attractive.

No idea why they are so expensive, they are so easy to propagate and to pot on and get to a reasonable size for selling very quickly.
