Hi all does anyone know what this is, I don't think I have ever seen this before

    Think it's an Ichneumon wasp

    Dove, google your wasp and it wasn't quite right but found Pimpla rufipes which looks more like itimage apparently seen mostly in southern England

    Its an indictment of the Northern Ireland summer, its an autumn wasp!image 

    Thanks for your help, I didn't have any idea even what species

    We're both right!  The Pimpla rufipes is one of the Ichneuman wasps image
