    They don't take much to get them out, last year we took out a 100ft row, 28 trees, been in there for 25 or more years so you can imagine the trunks. 

    We got my grandson to cut them down with his chain saw, (we could have have done it but didn't have one) then, with a mattock, iron bar and loppers we just picked away through a few weekends and now it's this. They really do come out easily, they are not that deep rooted and you can just chop the roots, they won't grow again.

    Much better, insect friendly, lots of stuff for bees and apart from weeding, not much work to do on it. 

    Edited to add...it looks like yours has been attacked with a hedge cutter rather than a bug.

    they don't grow back if you take all the green off them.

    Yes Lyn I agree with you.  Looks like someone has trimmed it hard back not realising that unlike say privet, box or yew if you hack into the old wood this monster won't regenerate.  Removal is the only way to go.
