Clematis Pruning

I have a Bees Jubilee Clematis in a pot which never as many flowers I just wondered if I should put it in a bigger pot is it best to prune it after flowering, and with the summer flowering Clematis when is the best time to prune I must say I am dissapointed with the ones in the pots as opposed to the three I have in the borders

They're happier in the ground arthur, as they can access nutrients and water more easily, so if you keep it in a pot, you'll have to make sure it's big enough and that you change the compost/soil each year, otherwise the pot will be full of roots and not much else. Think it's a Group 2 - so light pruning. You can prune it back a bit now if it's finished flowering, (it'll flower again later this year) and then in late winter/early spring to keep it to a manageable size and give it the best chance of performing well.

I'd get it into a bigger pot though. That will help with nutrition. Then keep it well fed and watered image

Where do you want to have them arthur - sun , shade etc, and what sort of things do you like - colours and so on. If you're looking for something permanent like a shrub or perennial, there are loads to choose from, but it also depends on the  type of look you want and the size of the pots. I have three Hebes in identical terracotta pots along a path. They're low maintenance and form nice mounds, mimicking box balls. Some of the grasses look really good in pots too.

Might be a good idea to start a new thread for that as you'll get lots more ideas. image
