Today I bought my first tree in a pot - usually buy huge ones.

I have always wanted to bring one in each year, so it's a treat this year. It came complete with worms and little slugsimage

However it is in a red pot inside that is something called a climate bag (it says designed to keep moisture in) and inside that is the pot with tree.

It already has roots breaking through the sides of the pot so will need to be potted on - is there a best time, I've read the post about gritty JI3

I think a large plastic pot will not be very aesthetic but what else?

Will NOT go into the garden, when  we moved in had a 40ft one removedimage

The tree I bought in 2012  (read first post) is now about 3ft tall, just popped outside to check image.

If the tree was outdoors when you bought it, keep it outdoors until ready to dress. I bring mine in a few days before Christmas and put it in the dinning room by the door were it'd coolest then put it in the lounge on Christmas eve near the window and the furtherest point from the fire and central heating. Put the pot in a dish of water and let the tree drink from the bottom, adding more water if the dish becomes dry, trying not to over water.

If potting up put it in a plastic pot, mines in terracota and I'll need help getting it in doors this yr. A plastic pot will always fit into a nice ceramic one and can easily be moved in and out of the house.

If the tree has been grown in a pot and kept outdoors, the shock of repotting and bringing it into the house could kill it. If not root bound I'd repot in the spring.

Matty - your tree sounds like it needs repotting now though.
