Potato Vine

Are the flowers of the potato vine edible - ours are lilac?  I don't have the correct Latin name I am afraid.

    Solanum  crispum Glasnevin?

Pretty sure it's not edible - the solanaceae family are a mixed lot, potatoes, tomatoes, aubergines and nightshades.  I wouldn't eat it.

Just had a thought - are you referring to the top growth of a potato plant?  Some varieties have lilac flowers - NO DON'T EAT THEM and DON'T EAT THE FRUIT THAT FOLLOWS THEM EITHER!!!  They may look like tomatoes, but the fruits of potato plants are poisonous, even if the potatoes themselves are perfectly edible!

So many good edible flowers out there, nasturtium, calendula, borage, daylily (in bud) just to name the most common, leave potato flowers and their ilk where they are!

Hi everyone who has replied.  Thank you for all the advice.  I am very wary of edible flowers and have definitely not seen these on any edible flower lists.  Just thought I would query it with the experts!
