When I was working and used to chat to carers we often did it in the garden so the person with dementia wasn't listening. Many times I was given a plant or seeds, and since they couldn't be given to the charity as raffle prizes I got to keep them Hence my tree peony is called John J, Canterbury bells are Leo, outdoor toms ( which I save seeds from ) are Dave. The latter made my neighbour laugh when I gave him a couple of plants and he asked the variety.
I did have a stags horn called Janice...nasty brute, but lovely lady.
I've also a few things that my Dad loved, they get extra TLC.
I've now started buying plants that forum members suggest. So pasque flowers are called Lizzie, delphium & agastache called Verd, but they don't get cake. The blue poppy might get called fairy..if she looks after it.
The blue poppy might have to go on it's hols to the lady on forum ( apols don't remember her name ) who lives in the Lake District who posted some lovely pictures of hers.
Gazanias just started flowering, New herb bed is settling down, Chicago Peace Rose produced another flower and Country Taste Tomatoes now starting to ripen

Looking great already John . You'll have plenty for everyone with that tomato!
Just took a pic of my ligularia which has lots of flowers appearing now. Loads of bees on it the other day - but tonight this little one was sitting very quietly having a rest:
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

It's a lovely idea having name associations - and I particularly like the tomatoes called Dave...or was he really called Rodney?

Its nice to hear your plant stories, not just me that's sentimental / mad then.
FG I am a bit nervous about losing 'you' and my goovling says to collect seeds to ensure I see you next year.
Chicky yes I think it is, it was stolen from sisters garden ( due another visit soon, she has a great garden)
BL your garden always looks fabulous.
KEF funny, your names make me laugh!
Verd a think blue is a good colour for you (you did post about your washing line didn't you?).
Need a bit of height and contrast in the border Verdi or it all looks a bit 'puddingy' doesn't it?
MrsG- usually the alstoemerias seed themselves around a bit and they're sometimes hard to get rid of....I hope that's not how you think of me!....
