Depends how patient you are Angela as I brought a lot of bare root ones this year as like pansy says you have more choice and they have been in the ground for months now and still pretty small! I'm a bit disappointed even though I know they will be better next year! Whereas potted ones I have brought in past couple of months and weeks are going great guns image and I would say when you buy when on offer no dearer than the root ones. Hope this helps you to decide image

I've bought both. Sometimes the bare root ones have been a bit spindly so I prefer to go for potted ones that I can choose in a garden centre, although they are more expensive
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I put bare root roses in winter before last. I was amazed on the growth and display they have me the very first season. Hence surprised that bare roots are not as good as potted.
