Monkey Puzzle advice

a1154a1154 Posts: 1,108

Well....ive always wanted one and it was a bit of a bargain, but im now worried about where to put it.  Also they are a bit fragile when young is that right?  I have plenty of space, but its all quite windy.  I could put a wind fabric barrier up if they are not good in wind when small.  Whats the advice?

Should you stake them?

As its small, im having difficulty imagining it being BIG and where it should go (but ill be dead by then so why worry!).

Although they're a slow grower (usually) they will get to a height 98ft + and width of 49ft so when you say you've plenty of room ................image  They do best in a humid climate apparently and like a slightly acid soil.

I've got one and it's in a very dry place (in the corner between the shed and a fence) and my soil is neutral I think, definitely not acid.  I don't know how old it is as it was here when I moved in 3 years ago.  It's about 25 ft I should think and is very happy.  I've chopped off the lower branches so I can plant things underneath.

Good luck with your baby image
