Thornless Fruit Bushes

Hi, pretty new to gardening. I'm in the process of clearing an overgrown communal garden.

The first thing i want to try are fruit bushes, Blueberry, Blackberry Raspberry, that sort of thing.

i'm looking for ideas for thornless bushes.

Rubus fruticosa ( Rubus Thornfree), Triple Crown and  Fruticosus Black Satin are some Blackberry varieties which are thornless

    Are blueberries thornless

Yes, blueberries are all thornless but do require acid soil - all of mine are grown in containers with a 50/50 mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No 3.  Jostaberries are also thornless and worth growing as a cross between gooseberry and blackcurrant.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Red and white currants are thornless, my gooseberries have thorns even though they shouldn't. Blue berries need more than one go cross pollinate.image

Do the Blueberries need to be the same type for cross pollination or can i use a mix like this.

Probably better to have a mix rather than several bushes of a single cultivar as far as pollination goes.  I have about 6 or 7 varieties and they crop well. image
