How long since you filled it with water - or has it filled naturally?

I want to make a pond on my allotment to encourage toads and frogs it won't matter to me if the water's clear as long as the frogs and toads like it.

What  did you put the pond plants in?    Did you add any soil of any type.   Even aquatic soil can cause the water to be murky for awhile and regular soil/potting compost will have too  many nutrients and cause algae blooms.   I potted mine just in grit--small pebbles--that I washed first to remove dust.     Also if you have blanket weed you will have to physically pull it out. I just reach my hand in but you can also use a stick and twirl it like spaghetti.   I love the idea of a pond in a boat-- sort of an inversion of what you'd expect!

Watercress. Just chuck in a couple of handfuls from a  bag from the supermarket. It uses the nutrients and clears the water very quickly. You can pull it out later if it becomes a nuisance image
