Worst Gardening Tool

Hello

I'm a product design student in Portland, OR. I am currently working on a project to improve the gardening experience for those 50 years and older. Here is my question. Out of all the tools you use for gardening, which one is the worst to use and why? Is one of your tools painful to use or not work as it should? Basically, what is your least favorite gardening tool/product and why? Any feedback you can offer me will be useful.

Thank you for your time!,

Andrew

    HI Andrew image

I'm 60+ and so far I'm not finding using any of my garden tools difficult thank goodness.  Ask me again in 20 years time image

    Hi Andrew,

My worst tool is the Black & Decker leaf blower/collector. From the first one the motor burnt after a year (received a new one under warranty) The switches doesn't work properly at all. The switch to blow or suck only functions in position 2 which is to fast. Position 1 did  only work for a few weeks. An other big annoyance is the connection from the collectorbag to the machine. There is a gap between the bag and the holder and as soon as the suck function is activated leafs, and dust comes out the bag and knock you in the face.

I've bought 3 machines (and one under warranty) but they have all the same problems.

Since this brand produces their products in eastern europe the quality is crap.

Nor me Rb. I'd rather be on my knees with  trowel.image. Don't think a trowel can be improved unless it can have a finder device added.

Me neither, I get to uncover the hoe mysteries. I pull up weeds with the help of a small bulb trowel. I would love to understand how to use a hoe properly.

Also edge cutters, have tried long handles edge trimmers, strimmers and don't get on with any of them so always return to the Edward scissor hands method.

My wost tool is also the best piece of kit I have at present. A petrol strimmer, why don't they come with a harness, that would take the pressure of my back. I can only use it for about 15mins at a time.
