Couple of years ago we picked up a greenhouse. As I was wrapping and stacking the glass, the table collapsed. As is the case with instinct, my hand went out to try and catch some of the falling panes.

A broken one caught the inside of my finger, cutting an after and the nerve. Five days later I was having surgery to repair the nerve so that I wasn't in extreme pain whenever I moved my finger

Oy you guys, happy you are all still alive and kicking!

Two of my worse... push mower got stuck on a tiny "stmbler" (bit of cut bramble or something sticking out of the ground), run my middle full tilt on the handle bar... bruised tummy, could not breathe... first for the bruise then for the cussing.

Smashing a big stone that was in my way with the sledgehammer, stone fell apart (finally) still not sure how it happened but half of the bugger fell towards me, and my right hand was caught between it and the next stone. Broke my ring finger (again!). Still has a hard bump on it (another one!!). I still enjoy stone-work though.

when i was making my bamboo planters on wheels i was bending forwards fixing on the liner inside with one of those 'swing it like a hammer' staplers, i swung towards the inside of the planter, missed and stapled my shin bone instead, apart from the staple i had one heck of a bruise.

Not an accident but a lucky escape. In the seventies my first permanent job was as an apprentice gardener with Stockport council. Working on a large council estate one of the main tasks was to mow the large grass areas around the estate. In those days Council staff did not have ride on mowers bur very large cylinder or rotary mowers. I was assigned a Rotaty mower which had adjustable height. We were instructed to switch off the mowers to change the height, but being young and impatient I decided to do it whilst still running which involved my hand going inside the underside of the mower. Fortinately I was wearing chrome leather gloves, I felt a painful bang on my finger tips and whizzed my hand out to see the top inch of the gloves neatly sliced off. A lesson learnt.

I used to get a big blister from the secateurs when pruning, not anymore. Now I just wrap a compeed plaster round my thumb.

Scars - chickenpox ones and three big scars on my left hand from getting it caught between a large twig and a roundabout (the supposedly child friendly kind). Rough knees and elbows caused from running in the garden playing with 2 walking sticks (I was 4) and falling over in gravel - resulted in 4 massive plasters.

Sliced through my hand with secateurs last year, ended up in A&E with 5 stitches and a nice scar to remind me to be more careful.

Last year I tripped over the back door step, smashed my face on the tomato pots and broke my wrist and some fingers on the terrace image

.....and Mr Dove was A-MA-ZING!!! image

He was indeed - I'm touched that you remember imageimageimage

  • Sometimes It gets me into trouble, Dove.....but I do confess to having a retentive memory. image

It was a hard fought battle against the brambles, I won eventually
