Greenhouse dilema

I have been looking for a greenhouse 6x8 seems to be a good size & I have a plot for it but I just can't decide which one to get, I've decided on toughened glass & possibly aluminium, is it worth the extra money to get it powder coated?

I like the look of Elite they seem good value but I'd like a opening door & not a sliding one, what are the pros & cons of this?

The problem is there is too much choice so any recommendations would be much appreciated.

I'd go with powder coating only if you're near the sea.

I prefer a sliding door personally as they don't take up room as they open and close.

Whichever you go for, make it as big as your budget and site allows.

I agree with Hosta there, a sliding door can be left open a few inches in the winter for ventilation a, more difficult on an opening one.

Whichever one you get, make sure it's the biggest you can afford, you never have enough greenhouse space. Toughened glass is best if you have dogs or kids, mine's just ordinary stuff and does the job.

Thank you for your help, sliding door it is, I've also measured up & I could fit a 6x10 so may go for that. I'm not near the sea so won't worry about powder coating. Any suggestions on make or where to purchase it from?

  • I put in a second greenhouse this year (6' x 8') which I got from greenhousepeople.co.uk and am very pleased with it so far. It came with very clear instructions and was really easy to assemble, there was a small pack of bits missing and they sent it next day delivery when I complained and were very apologetic. Mine was on special offer and seemed a good price to me. The only slight negative is that it isn't as tall as my original one so might not be so good if you're tall (I'm not so it's not a problem).

Check out local greenhouse suppliers, I got mine two years ago and it was the same price as online but.. they included putting in the foundations and building it as well. It was the same company that had put in my grandmothers green house 90years ago, they checked their records!!
