My sunflowers are out - at last, unfortunately they didn't grow where I planted them so the impact I was hoping for is lost, but still very cheerful looking fella's. image

most of mine have grown well this year, hopefully will provide lots of seeds for the birds.

one thing I have learned tho is the biggest ones ( a lot are taller than me ) need proper staking cos some of them haven't grown very straight.

  • Lovely fruitcake, such cheerful flowers aren't they. image

Every year in my garden diary I write notes to myself to be sure to stake and every year forget/don't get around to it until it's too late - next year.....image

Brilliant Frannerz hope mine get that tall next year do you know the variety

  • Got a few of various sizes and varieties, no giants, nothing taller than about 7ft this year. Started collecting some seeds today to save for next year.

Ynnead, don't know about the 'best' variety for pollinators, but I like the look of 'Titan' as it produces particularly large flower heads and seeds, so should be good for pollinating insects as well as a great source of food for birds and squirrels later in the season.
