Some decent offers on today tomato plants at 89 cent bedding at 2.49 which is fair same as last years  4 for 10 offer. this years prices seem a bit higher than last at 3.39 compared to 2.99 last and veg seems to be getting sold at flower prices which is annoying because in ireland flowers have 13% vat and veg is 0 rated.

surfinia's are cheap too at 1.49 might be time to do a few boxes image

  • Lidl had healthy, well-watered plants. Only bought 2 gerananiums for £3 but the rest looked lovely - big contrast with Aldi. There were potting mats there for a couple of pounds, though, that I had bought earlier in the 99p shop. image

Fresh stock today, but good to see the older plants are getting some tlc hopefully.

sometimes its worth paying a little bit more my pound land trowel has about as much stiffness as a soggy bit of cardboard worth the 2.49 for the aldi one but not the 7 for a gardman trowel. just transplanted a few pansy seedlings very poor showing for the age I dont think i'll bother using my plastic shelves as seed trays again (16 plants out of 3 foot by 1). still they did germinate in the colder weather.

Back again, sent for new power cord Tuesday, £20 plus postage, arrived today plugged in and away. Still going to buy a new one though, this is old and slow like me, looking at Acer, anyone got one and comments.
Read through the thread thought I was on the wrong thread, I arrived at Secondary School on crutches and a big pot on my leg so got a good bullying, two weeks later Mother got a letter from the head master, tell your son to stop using his crutches as deadly weapons, end of being bullied.
In the forces you stand up to be counted even though your guts turn to water all good practice to supervise the ICI heavy squads and worse still the Office girls.
Rant today is that Easterly wind when will it turn away? the weather forecast says warmer, last night was frost and today bitter.

    Frank.

Not gardening related, but I thought you all might to know that M&S have an offer at present for one third off duck, guinea fowl and poussin.  They're doing their bit. image

Frank/Dad both my girls had Acers-they're the ones that are on the blink!! That said-they weren't expensive ones and the girls used them constantly so I think the laptops were just losing the will to live.image I've just bought an Asus and so far so good. I went on comparison site and this one was through Ebuyer. Think it was £240 as there was money off it. It'll be fine for what I need and I guess that's the key. I'll only use it for this and banking etc and the odd browse -nurseries and garden related sites mostly!image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • My good one is an HP and my rubbish one is an acer. However, the HP was a lot more expensive than the acer, so I supppose you get what you pay for. It is much better to get a 64 bit one than a 32 bit one, I thinnk, but costs more.

  • I have a HP that is probably 3 years old (was using it to go on baby sites when preggers with number 2), and it's still fine.  Was under £300 from PC World.  Got it from there as with a toddler and another on the way at the time, really wanted to get their 'if anything happens' warranty, which I've used 3 times (twice for power cord and once when it started smoking ominously!)  As I got the platinum cover, they come & pick it up, give me a loan laptop, and bring it back when fixed.  That said, if I'd put the tenner a month in a tin, I could've bought a new one now.

OH also has a HP and hates his, as its so slow (it has software issues, he tries to open a load of websites and run pro-engineer at the same time).  It does take ages to boot up, though, so not all down to him.  Apart from trying to set itself on fire, I like my HP.

  • All to do with whether 32 or 64 bit, perhaps. 64 bit is a lot faster.
