GG I think sadly a lot of small places just can't compete with the big boys -same situation as the supermarkets I'm afraid. We used to have a lovely little independant GC 5 mins away which had lots of plants you didn't get in the bigger GC- they mainly grew them on the premises- but it closed a few years ago and there are houses on the plot now. Shame. Now that we have the internet many people source specialist nurseries and growers for plants and maybe that's the future. I bought grasses nearly 20 years ago from a specialist nursery down south and they were terrific- sadly the owners have now retired For those kinds of growers the internet is probably a huge part of their income.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Fairygirl?Daughter, of course I do not shout at the TV that would be daft, there is no thought behind some of those vapid programmes so what is the point. Spell check someone has worked on it thinking we are all idiots, I like to prove them wrong then give myself a cheer, odd? what is odd about that? When you have sat in a conference for a plant shut down listening to the Graduate Engineers come up with weird and wonderful solutions experience tells you will not work, you do enjoy coming up with the easy solution and watching their faces.
The plant that put a smile on my face all winter was the Primula Vulgaris or Primrose as we know it, an outdoor border plant that started as one plant given to me years ago and divided every year set along a border I can see from the bedroom when I open the curtains. Even in the coldest weather they were smiling their acid yellow smiles at me and it lifts your spirits no end. As soon as the flowers die down I will sort clean divide and replant them, wonderful and all from a single gift. My Nursery is a couple of miles up the back lane and from two greenhouses there are now fields of them. They grow all the usual sell quick plants although they do have specialised plants as well. Along the same lane some of the farms have also started to sell plants, usually the Farmers sons or daughters trying to make a living, several of them are doing well and like Nine Acres they are making progress as Fairygirl says an affluent area. Saying that I did read it as Effluent thinking I will not visit her then.
Forgive my answering a question you posed to someone else, Lizzie, but I think they have just found something in each other, a common bond. Frank and FG, forgive me, too - I just saw the question first.

I might adopt you as my surrogate Mum if you're not careful!
Oops- forgot you're only 27......

G/G, that is OK I was the child dad, my Daughter said she remembered the coronation, George V "hm" "err" I think? Saying that I have had a full and free life up to meeting Joan so may well have sown seed in Scotland then of course eaten it as Porridge, I am having some now with prunes. Rant, it said on the tin "pitted prunes, may contain stones"??? how mad is this world getting.
I sent for lots and lots of seed from various companies, just as I usually do. I've never had a problem before but I did spend £2.45 on some stocks seed (Noble White). I opened the packet very carefully....ONE SEED.
It has germinated but that's besides the point....I sent an email to the company (Plants of Distinction) weeks ago but have had no reply at all. I've loved their products in the past and have used them for a few years now... but this lack of response has been a bit of a shock. I just won't order from them again.

Are you two, Frank and Fairygirl, really father and daughter?
