They don't have the instincts Nut, they would never go broody and sit. As least mine didn't, I never had a cock running with the egg layers, my vegI friends would have been horrified.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Thanks Lyn I have found seeds for a hardier one to - 10 Rehmannia Piasezkii more open flower but still very nice will give these a go just ordered them
I've got a few seeds I'm not going to chill and the rehmannia is one of them. One potential problem at this time of year is quick germination and babies to see through winter with only a cold GH.
That and rotting of seeds that can't deal with our climate
I know, it's an old thread, but does anybody know if Rehmannia Walberton's Magic Dragon come true from seeds? The first posts here were about three years ago, did anybody try to propagate those seeds in the meantime? thank you
BBS, it's a hybrid between R. elata and R. glutinosa. If it seeds they won't come true, only species come true. I think this one is sold as non seeding, it certainly flowers for a long time which would go with that.
Thank you Nutcutlet, it seems to be growing seed pods, so it's a shame they are useless. I would have loved to have them all germinating and growing into plants as I find that particular variety absolutely stunning. I now need to cut down all the stems that have finished flowering and hopefully there will be more flowers before the summer is finished.
Pancyface, thank you for sharing your experience. There isn't much information about growing this wonderful plant, probably because it is relative new. I was wondering if I should take it in for the winter (and may be divide it into more plants). I am located in Surrey, so hopefully my unheated conservatory will be ok for it to overwinter.
I would definitely recommend this plant though - it is very beautiful, stays upright, goes with pretty much any other plants and flowers for weeks.
