I to have decided certain plants are not worth growing, e.g. lupins and delphiniums. Those that are vulnerable when young but are ok when mature I still grow and protect the young plants. I also take action to protect my salad crops because I think they are worth it. { poor lupins and delphs I just don't love them enough }.

  • If you think that is too much ammonia, try  a lighter solution.  I have always used 4 parts ammonia to 3 parts water not 3 to 3  as I posted earlier and it did not damage the leaves on my hostas.

I've found delphs are usually untroubled by molluscs once they reach a certain size. First time I've grown lupins though so I'll find out if they're worth it.

I have used cheap cat biscuits for years to keep the slugs and snails off my tender plants, buy a big box from Aldi or another cheap make, sprinkle near the tender plants as well as throwing some away from the plant I throw it on my lawns, the added bonus is that the fox loves them and the hedgehog and it doesn't harm anything including our wonderful birds.
