Replacement Tree For Mountain Ash
in Plants
I am replacing a Mountain Ash tree which is situated in a non sheltered part of my garden. I would like a tree with good foliage colour, orange or red. The foliage can be of either Spring or Autumn interest. The Mountain Ash tree is seven metres tall and is in a sunny position surrounded by a five foot privet hedge.
Grateful any suggestions.

I was going to say!!! Very bad luck to dig one up.
Don't plant any members of the rose family there to avoid possible disease [ Whitebeams, hawthorns, crab apples, cherries etc] as they are closely related to rowans. One tree with interesting spring colour and not too big is Acer pseudoplatanus Brilliantissimum. A good autumn colour tree and not too big is Parrotia persica.
