First harvest!

So today I went down the allotment after having been on holiday for a week and a half and to my surprise some vegetables were ready to harvest! We have lots of radishes and courgettes, although I only harvested a few of each today and will do the rest with my family at the weekend. They both tasted fantastic and completely different compared to supermarket bought.

It was really exciting and has got me into thinking about all sorts of things to grow next! How I love nature!

Enjoy!! From such small (but significant) beginnings are great harvests derived..!!!

Harvest just what you need to use or swop as they do not keep once they are cut..

I have leaned its better to have a variety rather than a big crop of one or two items... Away for a week and a half!! My gareden would be a dust bowl in a week.. We have had temperature of 47-48c and watering late at night an early in the morning was the only way I could keep it going..

I have had a family member been watering the allotment for me! Plus we've had some rain the last couple of days image

BLT, gosh where are you with those temps, 2 weeks ago Wed it was 38 at work at nearly killed me!  Pauline 7, I just feel smug saying to folk eating at mine I grew this!!! Gave other half a lamb steak a couple of days ago, everything apart from the lamb was from the plot.

Harvesting your own crops is great isn't it!

So far this year I have had radishes, peas, baby carrots, baby spinach, new potatoes and parsley. Still looking forward to raspberries, strawberries and tomatoes and all the others are still going.

I went away for a week and half in April and some of my seedlings died in the conservatory, since then we have mostly had cold, wet, windy weather here in Scotland - the weeds have done great but everything I'm trying to grow has been slowed down by the weather. Looks like it is just turning hot again though - I might need to do a bit more watering than so far this year!

South coast (East Sussex) hot and dry, had a bit of rain this morning, looked forward to not watering, no such luck! Sitting here dripping with sweat (very attractive I know) 24d outside, 28d here in the (north facing) conservatory, sea mist on the Downs opposite, I told my Hubby to wear his shorts to work! Our Autumn raspberries have been ripe for some time, picked (and ate) the first blueberries yesterday, only bought the bushes this spring. Wedding Anniversary BBQ on Sunday, normally I have ripe toms, not this year, yet its been hot and dry for ages. Mind you, last year grew some in the greenhouse, got blossom end rot, because it was so hot in the day in April.First earlies stored this week, plus onions and garlic.
