Elder

Does anyone know if elder plants are ever grafted? May be a coincidence, but under a plant identified here as an elder (though it's never flowered) we have lots of vine like elder, and now a small elder tree with flowers has sprung up behind the broome, I'll take a photo when it's not raining. Not sure how to take them out with other plants in the way and am loath to use weedkillers, any suggestions/experiences?

I get elders popping up all over the place, courtesy of the birds! If there are other elders about that have berried that is probably how you got yours. If they are small you can dig them out easily. If they are larger or inaccessible for digging then just cut them back to the ground. They will regrow - just cut them again. When you decide on a re-arrangement or the broom gets old and woody you can dig the roots out.

Not sure about your 'vine-like elder'. Do you mean ground elder? That's another matter altogether!
