New lawn a bit sad.
Laid turfs last Autumn a bit late but all knitted together and 'filled out' ok in the Spring. The new growth is nice and green but the 'thatch' underneath seems a bit yellow, obvious after mowing even with the blades set fairly high.
It's in partial shade and the ground/rough grass was for years before, subject to large drops of oak leaves, much of it breaking down into the soil. I've given it a couple of doses of a mild lawn fertiliser but it has made no difference.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

How high was it before it was mown? They recommend taking no more than 1/3 of its length off at once. When our lawn was first laid I had to cut it with shears to start with.
' It's a fair cop! ' I must confess I was over zealous with the first cut before I was advised. If that is the only problem, I wonder if there is any remedy? Thanks for replying.
New turf shouldn't be fed too soon after laying but it will recover. The eventual appearance also depends how much wear the grass gets and how perfect you want it to be. If the area's a bit shady you'll always have a slight issue , but in spring you can scarify to remove the thatch ,give it some Weed and feed and then mow regularly - little and often helps the grass thrive. You can scarify just now or in autumn too, but it will look a bit rough for a while. Some oversowing with a seed suited to shadier areas might also help, but perhaps best to wait till spring and take a view on it then.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
