Suggestions please!

Hello!
Today when I was at work one of my colleagues asked if I could help with one of the items her 4 year old had written on this years Christmas list ... atleast it's given plenty of time to sort it lol

Her daughter has asked for ' A flower that doesn't die ' ..... yes I know what your thinking.
Any suggestions? It has to be something that can be grown in a pot, kept indoors and it isn't too fussy as the family aren't gardeners and haven't had much luck with keeping things alive in the past, but are wanting to try.
I did think of Cactus / Succulents at first but they aren't 'girly' enough for year round interest in the eyes of a 4 year old .... oh and if it could flower at Christmas then that would be a bonus! lol!

I need to get my thinking cap on so it'd be great to see what any of you can think of too.

Thanks image

Hmmmm maybe you could do a miniature garden, or like a small scene using cactus, cress for grass etc?

    Orchid, because it's very pretty.
  • Christmas cactus!!!   the flowers are very, very girly image  and they thrive on 'benign neglect'.

I've a generic purple Orchid of the "brought as a gift from a supermarket variety".

It was left at the house as the old lady had less than kind words to say about it only that being a gift she couldn't throw it out.

When we visited the house in August it was in flower. When we moved in in December it was in flower despite, she assured me, her best efforts to "kill the damn thing".

That was two Decembers ago. Aside from a few months when the flower stem was snapped off in giant oaf related incident and it was then put in the garden being drowned in a bucket of rainwater while everything was covered in dust and muck and the poor thing was knocked over on a regular basis. Even now it is left to dry out completely for a few months and then drowned when I remember (in a pot far too small for it).

    Its near bomb proof!

  • Thanks for all the suggestions! I am working with the lady tonight so I'l tell her what you've suggested then image
