Carrot query

Some of my carrots have grown faster than others. The stalks have grown rather tall and have thick whites hairs growing up the stalk. I picked one today and the carrot hadn't fully developed. I was just wondering if there is anything wrong with them or if I have done anything wrong.

Do you not get rude shaped one by feeding Verdun?

I thought carrots split and grew hairs when the ground was fed in the same year as sowing?

I shall watch this thread as well.

  • Thank you image. I try to water as regular as I can. I always try and give them a sprinkle at night. Some of the stalks look fine but like I say some are much thicker and hairer and taller. One has even started flowering. I've only just started growing veggies so any hints and tips are much appreciated. image

You need to cut the thick flower stalks off. If you are only giving a sprinkle of water you are doing more harm than good.

If you only water the top inch or two the roots will never go down, if you cant water for a long time you are best not doing it at all. The roots will then go down and down deeper to get to the moist soil.

I am sure it's been discussed 20 times on here I haven't the time to use the search box though, and I know you like to tell the taleimage I make a hole like that, no fear of a stone getting in the way. My dad always reckoned rich ground made them 'hairy'
