Lawn edging
I just wondered how everyone trims the edges of their lawns, I have to admit to being a bit of an OCD neat freak and doing mine with scissors as all the strimmers I've tried don't do as neat a job as I'd like and sometimes skin the grass off.
I'm thinking of buying some lawn edging to keep it tidy then I can just mow the edge. I am thinking of trying Smartedge as it's not so expensive as some of the others. Has anyone tried this brand?
I don't like that green corrugated stuff, it has to be discreet.

I hate strimmers and only use hand shears for edging, but the best edge for a lawn is brick, paviour or similar to give a sturdy edge to mow over. Expensive to get done professionally and time consuming if done yourself, but worth it if you're staying in a property long term.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I use a strimmer - carefully - by midsummer most of the beds have blowsy perennials flopping over so they're propped up before mowing and strimming, then I use a small electric Flymo Power Trim which works well once you've got the hang of it as long as you have a straight eye or use a straight edge (I have a long roof batten). I don't let OH do the edging.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
All very good ideas thanks, the geraniums are flopping everywhere at the moment. My OH doesn't do gardening, will dig if pointed at it.
I never thought of using a batten and a strimmer, that would certainly protect the grass.
There must be lots of other people out there strimming whilst holding perennials back with one foot
