Holly leaves

I have a largeish holly tree in my garden which sheds a reasonable amount of its leaves each year. Whilst picking them up this week with a view to doing what I've always done up to now ie throw them in my green council bin I suddenly thought, is there something useful I can do with these myself. Any suggestions?

I have been using mine to keep cats off the Nepeta when it first comes into growth and used to use it to protect peas from mice.
