^^ How did you do that Hosta?  Did you consider snacking on them? We used to have loads in our previous house, but moving 3 miles down the road we barely get any.  We had one return recently (surprisingly at the same time I placed some bird feeders in the garden).  I 'scared' it off by launching grapes in it's general direction and it hasn't returned.

I do quite like them though...

So what's the point of that Hosta? You'll just get more in their place, unless you're going to wage a one person war on squirrels?
I couldn't ever kill anything that's warm blooded, but I do hope you're doing that humanely, it's illegal to cause suffering to animals, including squirrels!

Would it be helpful to keep pets that might deter squirrels? I was thinking of cats or jack russell terriers which would encourage the squirrels to find a safer place to feed.

I have squirrels in my garden regularly, they drink a lot from a half barrel water feature that I have, I never see them eat or damage my plants.  The only problem I have is that someone locally feeds them peanuts in shells and they like to bury them in the garden.  This week I have pulled up about half a dozen little plants that have grown from the peanuts.

They cause less damage in my garden than the birds do. I like watching them do a 'mission impossible' run round the garden.

I don't think anyone should hurt the poor little things, yes they can be  pests but i don't condone killing them. Trap them and release in local woorland yes but not hurt them.

Yes someone at the end of my garden feeds the squirrels/pigeons peanuts each morning and they bring them to my garden to bury them!!!   Perhaps if I put a bowl of peanuts out they would take them somewhere else and then eat their plants!!!   there is no way I could harm them but I would rather they didn't eat my plants.
