I took this when walking the dogs in a local park, not sure if it has self seeded somehow as there were a few of them scattered around. Looks a bit exotic for a native to me.
There were quite a few of them in both pink and white. I would love to try and grow some but I seem to have more than my fair share of slugs so think they wouldn't last long.
Lilies are a bit of a magnet for our mollusc 'friends'. I had success with the Longiflorum kind in a previous garden - they seemed to cope no problem. I put lilies in pots now rather than in the ground so that I can protect them more easily.
We have a lot of damp weather so slugs and snails can be a nightmare in spring
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
They are lovely aren't they? I saw them growing wild in Switzerland and promptly fell in love. I only have one though - you parks department must have had cash to splash - the white ones are delectable but cost £6 each! Mine grows in a damp meadow, as I saw them in the wild, with little or no care from me, apart from keeping an eye out for the dreaded beetle. Bit out of the way here, have only ever seen one. The lily seems unbothered by slugs or snails, though there are plenty. Doesn't need staking, though it is often windy up here. Just gets better year on year - last year the main stem had 42 flowers. This year flower number slightly down but there are more stems. Tried to post a picture, but my internet is rubbish here and couldn't get it to co-operate today!
I have just spent a few days in North Wales and saw loads of these Martagons - mainly at NT gardens like Bodnant but some had 'escaped' to more open areas
You can grow them from seed if you don't mind the wait - Seedaholic sell it. Or you could invest in one bulb and separate the scales to grow on, if you could bring yourself to do it!

Turk's cap lily (martagon) I think pootler. Perhaps something has nicked a bulb from a garden - and dropped it!
