House Palm identification please
in Plants

Afternoon all, above are some pictures of a house Palm I was given this morning. I've had a look through lots of pictures on the Internet and cant find one that has the same stem leading up to two leaves that split off like the one I have. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated!
Many thanks, Jess

Hello Jess,
Welcome to the forum.
Your new plant is almost certainly a Kentia palm, also called Howea. That's a huge family, so leaf shapes do vary a bit.
Very easy plant to keep. Does not like direct sunlight though and can even do with semi-shade., Does not need much water.
Don't water more than once a week, and make sure to drain very well after watering, because the roots can be prone to rotting if wet for a long time.
The plant needs very little feeding and can even cope with a very dry atmosphere. Temperature should ideally be between 20 and 25 degrees centergrade.
I've got one with slightly different leaves. Mine has been sitting on the table in the dining room, so away from direct light, for at least 5 years and is still doing fne.
If the leaves get dusty you can even give the plant a shower with luke-warm water!
I hope you'll be able to find a nice place for it, so that you can enjoy it for a long time.
