help the greeks

it would be good if we could set up a 'seed solidarity' group in order to collect & send veg seeds to greek communities - so they can grow their own food in these terrible circumstances that they face......

I think before we embark on anything like that we need to know that this is something the Greeks themselves have said they would find helpful. Gardeners there are probably well used to saving their own seeds.

Also I'm not sure that the varieties of veg grown in the UK are necessarily going to do well in the Greek climate.image

I think that it would be more helpful to 'buy Greek' and improve their balance of trade etc - this morning I have bought Greek olive oil and Greek feta image

Also, if we send seeds now, when are they going to get the first meal?

And where are they going to plant them? not a lot of agricultural land on those tiny islands and bone-dry slopes...

It does seem a bit theoretical, but I'll enquire if my greek contacts think it is f interest.

Me, I mean to buy my greek friends an Amzon gift certificate... since their credit cards are blocked abroad they could not get books last week... very sad. Not much I can afford, but I know it is something they can use and appreciate.
