Plants climbing over summerhouse.

We have a brand new 12ft x 18ft summerhouse and the wall facing the house looks quite bare as has no windows. We have a zephirine drouhin thornless climbing rose that we would like to grow over the walls. Is this likely to cause any damage to the timber or cause it to decay?

Your only problem will be how you remove the rose when you want to paint or treat the timber against rot.

Zepherine Drouhin is a lovely rose.

The only conideration is that wood coveredd in plant growth stays more humid because it is less exposed to the sun and wind, but if the house is properly painted that would hardly make much of a diffrence, and Tetley said it all image

As Zephirine Drouhin is virtually thornless it should alsoo be possible with some care to maneuvre it out of the ways for maintenance, once in a while. So, I'd say, go for it without a doubt image

And come back and show us a picture in a couple of years when it's looking fabulous - we'll be green with envy image
