As Geoff has posted..It's still alittle early to sow most seeds, I'd be inclined to wait.

This doesn't answer your Q but If you really want to get ahead of the game with sowing seeds, and I'm thinking for next year, there are some flower seeds which can be sown July/August time and planted out Sept/Oct time to over winter, you would need to check the growing instructions on the packet for each variety. I did this with Foxglove, Bellis and Parsley ( and another but the labels blown awayimage) Planted in a nursery bed, today was spent relocating them round the gardenimage.

Sown Sept/Oct time,(depending where you live), sweetpea will over winter in the GH and I've also had success with cornflowers.

April at the very earliest -even then it might be too early-it depends on the temperatures-day and nightimage

  • Thanks geoff - I guess I'll just have to be patient !

Growing seeds in the greenhouse depends on what area you  live. I am north cornwall.

I grow broad beans, sweetpeas in mine which is unheated. I do use a deep root trainer with a lid.The rest i leave until March when it is warmer.

I've got toms and peppers and coriander all germinated and snuggled up in the heated propagator in my gh. Sweet peas, mangetout, broad beans and regular peas all germinated in there too but are now out on the staging.I'm just on the southern edge of Dartmoor, and it is chilly at the moment, so I've draped some fleece over them all for the moment.

  • Thanks all! Great to have found some kindred spirits to give me advice! I'm all about the vegetables and herbs so everything from courgettes and chilli peppers to parsnips beet root and salad leaves!

Hoping for a much better year for my fruit too!
