Fruit at last!

paulk2paulk2 Posts: 184

It's finally happened: here I was thinking that the only fruit I'd get this year from my Sheffield garden would come ready frozen on the plants, but I've just picked the first strawberries and raspberries of the season today and they are lovely image

Also noticed today the first courgette flower about to pop out  - this must be the latest time of year ever for me: is anyone else over a month behind due to the cold weather in this part of the world? Hope we get an Indian Summer!

I'm also on the edge of the Peak District, picked first 2 courgettes yesterday, would have had several strawberries if Mr slug hadn't beat me to it, and the peas are nearly there. Broad beans just about finished.

    No sign of sweetcorn yet

I think one variety of redcurrant is late. I'm in west Midlands.image

I'm in the South West, I moved into this house in June last year so only have that to go by but I would say everything is late. I've had a handful of strawberries (but they were new plants this year) however I've just made my first ever batch of raspberry jam so I'm happy with that.  I'm hoping for good things from my tomatoes as its the first time i've ever grown them in a greenhouse image

I'm in east hants and things do seem late, for the most part. Redcurrants were earlier than stated for the variety. Parsnips are doing well. But chillis are miserable due to the late summer, beans slow, courgettes slow (only started harvesting a week or two ago, and then not much). Basically warmth loving plants are slow.

Here in Cornwall, French and runner beans late, courgettes galloping, mange tout going stringy and filling out well before picking size. Peas, strawberries, blueberries and blackcurrants doing exceptionally well this year. Sweet corn struggling - tassels out but only half as tall as they usually are!!. Chillies [5 types] are fantastic. Tomatoes so-so. Melons late but catching up.
