I have a fig tree, but never had any problems like this. BUT I live on the south coast and the winters here are very mild. Maybe your figs have got some frost or cold wind?

(The figs developing this year always ripen the following year)

You should remove every fig that isn't going to make it (that is ripen) in the Autumn.

The tree will only waste energy trying to grow them in the Spring. The only figs that should remain through the Winter to mature the next year are the tiny figs in the leaf axils at the tops of the shoots.

By mid-summers day you should have pinched out all the green shoots at perhaps three/five leaves. Next year's figs will form at the top of the shoot in the leaf axils.

Fig trees need quite a lot of specialist care, so ask someone who can help you to show you. It is quite difficult to tell what needs to be done for optimum crops and shapely trees.
