Rose pruning
Last year I planted 3 climbing Arthur Bell - what a spectacular rose! In the first year it put on 12 - 15 feet from a potted plant. This year, from the bent and fanned out last year's growth, it has produced shoots 3 - 5 feet in length on which there have been huge trusses of roses and the perfume is a bonus. All going well, but what do I do now the flowers are over? More huge shoots are being sent up from the main bent shoots, but no flowers yet. I've pruned back the shoots that have finished flowering - some right back to the main shoot; others back just 3 - 5 buds just to see what happens, but I'm reluctant to over prune as everything looks fine and healthy. I've given them a single mid-summer tomato plant feed - should I continue? What else? And how should I prune come the late autumn? They're so good I don't want to spoil them.
The best climber I've ever grown - just superb, and the whiskey is very good too.

Thanks for that. There so good I don't want to ruin them. Then again, I went out this am and one of my clematis has wilted - again.
