Lupin seeds to buy or not to buy

I usually buy Russell lupin seeds, but I wondered would I get the same results from seeds from my own plants? Or would they be inferior, perhaps just the boring colours. I have a lot of pink ones & would like to get more of the reds or yellows. I bought some seeds off the internet this year - a packet of red & a packet of yellow - not one germinated! But the Thompson & Morgan mixed russells are very reliable.
