Thank you Rosa for making this thread ive just been brought two camellias one red and one pink and like jess my garden is in the shade for most of the winter and now know alot more info thanks to you and everyone else
Camellias are really forest trees so can grow to a very large size. The flowers can be damaged by heavy rain, frost, cold wind and early in the day sunshine. Down here in Cornwall people do grow them as formal hedges but they look best as free standing trees dripping with flowers, not as square boxes studded with flowers. They are coming into full flower down here already although next month will be spectacular, I have 3 sasquana types, in containers, which flower in Oct. They all love loads of water so are enjoying the current "showers!".
It's a 7yr old thread @Joyce Goldenlily, resurrected by a spammer, who's now been removed. None of the previous posters still contribute here, so I'd guess the OP's camellia will either have grown well or died by now!

Me too. i saw camellias for £2.99 in Aldi today and might get one.
