Area of border where plant fail
i have a patch about 1.25M sq in South/South west facing border. Garden redone 5 years ago and I imported 11 tons of topsoil from a reputable supplier. All other areas which also had the the new top soil are fine. Any thoughts?

We need more information - if the rest of the garden is fine then it's unlikely to be the imported soil.
Whereabouts is this patch, what is around it, behind it, beneath it etc? What plants have failed and in what circumstances?

could something have been sprayed in that section of border or have spread inwards from outside your garden?
I have a similar problem with a spot that is overhung by a tall oak... the roots of the oak are further up, but the top overhangs this part of the bed and nothing thrives, no matter how much water and manure I fling at it. Could you have a similar situation? Or maybe a older tree died there and left behind a honey-fungus infestation?
